General Information about SYPG Auditions

Open auditions are held before the start of each of the three Showcases and are geared toward being a positive and rewarding experience for children and their parents.

Children ages 7 -13 that are currently enrolled in a dance class (at any studio) and have at least 2 years dance training, may participate in the dance auditions for SYPG. Auditions are held approximately 3 months prior to the Showcase performance. Children should wear appropriate attire (girls: black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, hair in bun; and boys: white shirt, black pants, black ballet shoes). At the audition, children are taught various dance combinations to perform. The auditions last approximately one hour.

Depending on the production, SYPG may also hold vocal, instrumental or other performance auditions. Vocal auditions are open to children that enjoy singing. They do not need to be a vocal student. The children will be taught a short piece during the audition that they will then perform. They do not need to prepare an individual piece for the audition. The auditions last approximately one hour.

Each performance requires a series of rehearsals and every cast member must be willing to commit to the rehearsal schedule. It takes approximately 10 weeks of rehearsals to prepare for a major production. Performers must be available on Monday evenings between 5:30 PM and 7:30 PM for rehearsals. In addition to the major Showcase production, cast members will perform at various community events.
